G’day!
Thanks for visiting my site! My name is Damien Thornber, and my band The Orphans and I are on a mission of epic proportions! We have made a decision to dedicate our talents and time to serving a higher cause. We are an “all proceeds to charity” band. Our debut album Vow of Poverty will be aptly named, as we have signed the rights to all revenue raised from the sale of the CD to charity. The charity VOW International Services Inc is dedicated to funding education and building schools in the third world.
The CD will be sold by donation. The recommended donation is $15.00 (+ postage). Whatever you can afford, we will be grateful for. Please bear in mind that for just $250 AUS we can send a child to school for one whole year in Indonesia! That includes all their books, a back-pack, school uniforms, shoes (most of these kids will never have owned a pair of shoes in their life) and one meal a day! That is about the cost of a good meal for two at a restaurant!

Dedicated to my dearest mother for showing me there is strength and dignity in death, and from whom I inherited a spiritual fortune through the example of service to others; to the 12 steps for showing me how to claim my life back from addiction, a debt I shall never finish repaying.

Thanks to Samuel Markus (Dunn) for showing me the way of music as a form of catharsis, creativity and love. My inspiration and soul brother. We share birth dates. Love ya man; to Mouna who showed me that allowing oneself to be vulnerable can also be ones greatest strength. To your eternal spirit. RIP.; to Rob Findlay for believing in my music and shaping it into to something bigger than the sum of its parts; to our sponsors, whom without there would be no project; to all of you that have tirelessly laboured as a volunteers in the spirit of love for an ideal and a cause, for your vision in this concept, and your staying power in times of my own self doubt, and for your support when the going got hard. I love you all.

Help us, help them!
Congratulations on purchasing your Vow of Poverty CD. Your purchase is a 100% donation to VOW International Services Inc. with every cent of your purchase going toward helping venerable orphans in the world (VOW). Damien Thornber is committed to a life of charity and he, along with his band, have taken a vow of poverty on this CD in order to fulfil a dream of funding education for poor, orphaned and underprivileged children in the third world. VOW intends to contribute through building schools and orphanages and bringing basic human rights like water, food, health care, shelter and education to people that need it. You can find out more about where your money has gone by visiting us at any of the following links:

“I believe every child on earth deserves the opportunity to rise out of incomprehensible conditions [such as poverty and abuse. In Australia I have enjoyed the fruit of free education, clean air and water, free health care, social security and many other commodities that are easily taken for granted. As a subject of this unquantifiable gift, I feel it is my duty to make a difference to those who will never experience these benefits at all. I have made it my life goal and soul ambition to dedicate my work and every moment to the idea that this imbalance can end and that this inconceivable level of extreme poverty can be stopped by unity and generosity from the more fortunate. I pledge to never stop till there are no children living in suffering and poverty on this earth.” Damien Thornber

Did you know that if you live on welfare in Australia you are still in the top 1% of all the wealth in the world; that out of the 6.3 billion people on our planet 3.2 billion of them will not eat today; and that 2.1 billion of them will be lucky to have one meal, while in the west 35 million people will die this year from over consumption related diseases like high blood pressure, blocked arteries, high cholesterol, stroke, heart attack and diabetes; and that a mere $200 AUS (the cost of a dinner for two in a nice restaurant) can educate a child for 1 year in Indonesia, including school clothes, shoes, books and one meal a day.
